The Award

The Creme of Nature Community Action Award is all about giving something back to the many communities across the UK that have helped make Creme of Nature one of the most well known brands in the hair and beauty market for the past 30 years.

This Award is all about making a real difference. So if you are small with a big idea and just lacking funding, the Creme of Nature Community Action Award could be just what you need to make your dreams come true and start to make a real difference to the community you serve.

What can the money be used for?

There are very few limitations. In recent year the judges have chosen finalists that have presented ideas that are based on the need for capital items so that after there is a possibility that the award will leave a lasting legacy. Ideas that require support for salaries ir expenses have not been favoured by the judges in recent years.

It’s up to you to decide what you could do with £10,000. Remember the Community Action Award is a single payment of £10,000. That can take any organisation a long time to save. It can transform the work you do today, into the work you dream of doing in future, for the community you serve. And remember this year there will be a single runners up award of £5000, The 3rd 4th and 5th placed finalists after the online vote will receive £500 of Creme of Nature Products

The winner of the 2011 Creme of Nature Community Action Award is Victory Outreach Manchester. A cheque for £10,000 will be presented to the Team from Victory Outreach on the 12th May at the Students Union Building at Manchester University, as Student Action Manchester were last year’s winner, and therefore have the pleasure of hosting this year’s presentation.

Tarnya Coley from Victory Outreach commenting on winning the Award said “We were ecstatic and extremely grateful that we won the award as it took a lot of hard work! We joined together as a team going into our schools, universities, workplaces, and even on the streets getting the support of the local community, and in return we are committed to making a massive positive impact on our community. In winning this award, we are now able to carry out some of our great ideas that we have to drive improvements in our community.”

Victory Outreach plan to use the Community Action Award for 4 important projects, to provide on-site computer training, renovate the community kitchen, install a CCTV security system and improve toilet facilities to accommodate disabled access.

2010 Winner

This year the first prize of £10,000 moved north to the Students of Manchester, who volunteer throughout the year to help a wide variety of people young and old and from every community. The Award will enable many more deserving individuals to be made to feel valued and important, and at the same time have a lasting impact on many of the students.

Emily Booth Projects Manager for Student Action Manchester, when asked what the impact will be on winning the award said that “New volunteering projects can now be made possible”

Students Action Manchester is part of the University of Manchester Student’s Union, and was set up to enable students to give something back to the community.

Emily completed an application so that specific projects in Mosside and Manchester City Centre could be undertaken for the first time and then become sustainable for the foreseeable future.

The £10,000 was presented at Shern Hall Methodist Church on the 16th July 2011.

2009 Winner

The 2009 Creme of Nature Community Action Award was won by the Shern Hall Youth Methodist Steel Band.

Evangelica Brumant the Youth and Musical Leader for the Shern Hall Youth Methodist Steel Band along with Dr Lionel McCalman from Nostalgia Steel Band and the committee members applied for the award because of a desperate need to purchase a set of new steel pans rather than borrowing pans from Nostalgia.

Evangelica summed it up: “for over three years we have been nurtured and developed by Nostalgia Steel Band using their instruments. We have dreamed of having our own so that we can grow and fulfill our potential and make a real difference to those in our community. Today all our prayers have been answered. This award makes so much possible, we are absolutely thrilled. We wish to thank the organisers, adjudicators and fellow applicants for making this event possible. We hope our endeavours will prove us worthy winners of this prestigious award.”

The presentation took place on July 10th at The Galleria in Bromley. The Galleria is a community hair and beauty training salon that was created with the help of last year’s award and is now able to offer skills for life to many who otherwise would have little or no chance of becoming economically independent.

2008 Winner

The 1st winner  was Be Totally You, based in Lewisham to support their goal of providing training in creative arts and beauty for young women in the local community. Beverly Ejimofo, Chair of Be Totally You on receiving the award said “We are thrilled to have received such a prestigious award from a company we have known for many years. We have such a high level of creativity in the community but this rarely translates into high quality opportunities for ordinary folks to access good jobs or business; which contributes to better standards of living for them and their families”

Be Totally You used the Community Award to set up Galleria a training hair and beauty salon in Bromley.
